A two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon has taken the life of a Deshler man.   The Henry County Sheriff’s office investigated the collision at 3:10pm on state route 65.  23 year old Patrick Jones of Toledo was slowing to make a turn on the highway, when his car was struck from behind by a truck driven by 58 year old Daniel Zernhel of Deshler.  Zernhel’s truck rolled into the ditch and caught fire, with the driver trapped inside.   Daniel Zernhel was pronounced dead at the scene.   Patrick Jones vehicle also rolled into the ditch on its top, with Jones being transported to the WoodCountyHospital.


The sheriff’s office investigated three more injury accidents over the past 24 hours.  At 4:53pm Wednesday, 52 year old Mark Cacciatore (catch-a-tory) of Perrsyburg was injured in a crash on road 424 at road 4-A in HenryCounty.  Cacciatore was transported to the HenryCountyHospital by Liberty Rescue.


Deputies responded to another accident at 12:27 this morning on old route 6 east of Napoleon at road 11-C.  37 year old Leonard Harper of Napoleon lost control of his auto, striking some trees, and rolling onto its top.  Harper sustained injuries, and was transported to the HenryCountyHospital by Napoleon Rescue.


Then at 5:26am today, two vehicles collided at the intersection of state route 108 and county road R, just north of Napoleon.   Both drivers reportedly suffered critical injuries; and were transported to the HenryCountyHospital by Napoleon and RidgevilleTownship rescue units.   From there, the victims were taken to a ToledoHospital by land ambulance, since the weather prevented Life Flight from responding. 



Napoleon Police picked-up 26 year old Terry Grimm of Defiance on a warrant from Indiana.  Grimm was taken into custody at 9:14pm, and was charged with Fleeing and Eluding, and was a fugitive from justice.



A half-dozen fire department were dispatched west of Napoleon Wednesday afternoon, when a barn caught fire along road 16,near route 24.   At about 4:45pm, a mobile home was on-fire adjacent to the barn; but winds spread the flames into the structure, and the barn was totally destroyed.  It was already fully engulfed, when crews arrived.   Another trailer inside the barn was heavily damaged, and about a dozen chickens were lost in the fire.   The total loss is estimated at $100,000.   Crews from Napoleon, Ridgeville, Jewell, Malinta,and Florida all responded to the scene, along with Holgate EMS; but no injuries were reported.
