A half million dollars has been awarded to Henry County to help residents make improvements to their residential sewage treatment systems that are failing. The federal money could be approved for families at 50% reimbursement, up to a high of 100% full pay for replacement of a system that needs to be replaced. Interested applicants should contact Henry County Job and Family Services, and even homes with annual income of $85,000 can qualify for at least some funding. Once a family meets the income guidelines, an inspector from the county health department will determine the extent of problems with the sewage system. So far only 9 residents have applied for the federal money. Signs of failing septic systems could include saturated ground in the yard, even when there has been no rain. But there are other signs as well.
