VERDICT IN JAMES WORLEY MURDER TRIAL-GUILTY ALL

The verdict is in at the Fulton County Courthouse, where a jury of 8 women and four men have found James Worley of rural Delta guilty on all counts in the murder and abduction of 20 year old Sierra Joughin in 2016.   Judge Jeffrey Robinson polled the jurors who all responded in the affirmative, finding Worley guilty of Aggravated Murder, along with counts of Kidnapping, Felonious Assault, Possession of Criminal Tools, Tampering with Evidence, Gross Abuse of a Corpse, along with Escape.                  The sentencing phase of the case will begin next Monday, when testimony will be submitted by prosecuting attorney Scott Haselman regarding aggravating factors to bring the death penalty against Worley.   His defense attorneys will provide mitigating factors seeking a penalty of Life in Prison, with the possibility of parole.                  The jury will decide on the sentence next week.                          Following the verdict, Sierra Joughin’s uncle Howard Ice read from a statement, praising the work of the prosecutor’s office and Fulton County law officers in the investigation.   His statement also included the pain the family is feeling since Worley had been convicted of a crime of violence previously, and law did not allow that information to be released to neighbors living in rural Fulton County.
