NAPOLEON GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM CAPTURES DIVISION 2 STATE TITLE

For the first time in school history, the Napoleon Lady Cat basketball team has captured the Div. 2 girls state title. Napoleon knocked-off Vinton County on Saturday for their 24th straight victory, after beating Dayton Carroll in the semi-finals. In the state championship game, Napoleon girls broke the title game scoring record with 76 points. They also set a new championship game record with 27 free throws made. The Lady Cats finished the season 26-1, for a two-year record of 53-1.In the title game, Senior Taylor Strock led the scoring with 23 points, followed by senior Caely Ressler with 18 points and 9 rebounds, and senior Kalli Helberg tallied 16.

The city of Napoleon hosted a welcome-home party for the state champs Saturday night, with a downtown street dance. That was followed by a reception for the team at Buckenmeyer Stadium Sunday afternoon, where their individual state medals were presented to the players and coaches.
