COLD CASE MURDER IN PAULDING COUNTY RE-OPENS, BODY OF TEEN GIRL EXHUMED

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office has opened a cold-case investigation into a rape and murder that occurred back in 1960. The siblings of the victim, Nancy Eagleson, who was 14 at the time of the crime, petitioned the Paulding County Probate Court to have her remains disinterred for more examination.  The order to exhume the body was approved in the fall of 2022, and a new autopsy revealed Nancy Eagleson died of two gunshots wounds, the fatal shot striking her right eye. And the forensic pathologist discovered a 22-caliber projectile in her remains. 5 small fibers were also recovered from the pelvic or upper femur region; but will not be tested.             During the recent investigation, Paulding County Sheriff Jason Landers reports a 22-caliber revolver was turned over to law officers by a local citizen, who claimed it was the gun used to kill the victim.  Testing could not confirm whether the turned-in gun was the one that fired the bullet found in Nancy Eagleson’s remains.               Sheriff Landers reports the family has been through a roller-coaster of emotions through the renewed investigation, and his office will continue to investigate any leads, searching for a break in this cold, cold case.
